Shuaijiao in Beijing

Monday, August 27th, 2007

You training Shuaijiao in Beijing with the world’s best Shuaijiao teachers is possible.

It doesn’t matter where you are, Beijing welcomes you. And so do we! (I came all the way from New Zealand 11 years ago to do it… you can’t get much further away than that… and I’m still here. This place is a blast! Trust me, you are going to love it)

Master Li Baoru and Coach Ma Jianguo are committed to teaching Shuaijiao to people who are serious about learning it and in particular teaching it. If that is you, then some time spent in intensive training in Beijing will be the most valuable time of your martial arts career.

We are about to open a new International Shuaijiao Training Center which will make the experience all the more pleasant. New mats, new equipment, a truly Olympic environment.

Your stay here will be easy. We can help you find reasonably accommodation close to the Center and we can even help you by arranging introductions to other Chinese Martial Arts that you might be interested in like Yiquan, Taiji, Bagua, Xingyi, Wushu, Sanda, etc. (but you will still need to wash your own jacket!)

Now we haven’t set the rate for the standard classes yet, but the rate for private lessons with Coach Ma Jianguo - the head referee for all National level Shuaijiao competitions in China, a qualified Freestyle coach, and an outstanding Shuaijiao fighter - is 40 Euro’s per private lesson. Each 90 minute lesson is tailored to your interest, level of fitness, and expertise. (Rates are negotiable for long term arrangements)

So, what is it going to take for you to take the most amazing, and rewarding risk of your life?

See YOU on the mat in BEIJING!

A Mongolian Experience: The 2007 Nationals

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I’m a positive guy, but one thing i really regret already about the year 2007 is choosing to make money rather than throwdown on the expansive graslands of Inner Mongolia.

I didn’t realize it until i saw these photos.

I want to share them with you, and at the same time i want you to answer a question for me… “What would it take for you to make the trip to China and fight/watch/train/ref Shuaijiao?”

Enjoy

Mongolian Style Event - on the grass!

My coach - Ma Jianguo - briefing the referees before the tournament

This is my friend Baibai reffing. She is one tough but friendly Shuaijiao babe. Check those mountains out in the background…

Awesome Gouzi!

The ref in this match is Coach Zhou. Some of you might recognize him from our Youtube videos. In his younger days he was the Beijing Champ, now as a referee he received recognition as this tournament’s “Outstanding Referee”.

Awesome double leg!

Check the sand/dust on the mat. American desire for Cashmere equals overgrazing of cashmere producing goats in Inner Mongolia which equals ecological disaster in the grasslands which equals dust storms in Beijing… and even as far as Japan.

2007 Shuaijiao Nationals Officials & Referees

Coach Xu Gang and a Mongolian fighter

The Grandfather of Shuaijiao in China - Li Baoru - with his students and grandstudents. Third from the left is Coach Liu Haoxue, an 11 time National Freestyle Champion and Shuaijiao expert.

Some of the spectators looked pretty tough too!

One of the arenas

Not a bad turn out for the middle of nowhere!

Another Mongol Fighter

Another “Outstanding Referee” , Wang Jianhua from Tianjin with Baibai in the background. in New Zealand we would say he was “acting the goat”… i wonder what that saying means in Mongolia?

So, my question again…. “What would it take for you to make the trip to China and fight/watch/train/ref Shuaijiao?”

It is totally possible….

Keep Smilin’ & Throwing!

Michael
