Technique of The Week

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

This week’s technique comes to you all the way from Yunnan Province’s very own Shangri-La.

The technique is Nao Qie Zi. How exactly should we translate Nao Qie Zi? Perhaps as “The Brain Chopper”… anyway, this technique is common in Shuaijiao, so i need to make sure that you see it.

It is very versitile, working with or without the Dalian, and in combination with other techniques.

When you are learning Nao Qie Zi, as Coach Ma points out, leaning back while trying to execute the throw is the most common mistake. In addition, not chopping correctly often causes this technique to fail. You can reach over your opponent’s shoulder and grab his/her opposite lateral muscle, in fact that is the direction that the chopping motion must be in anyway…

Enjoy playing around with this one, and try combining it with Ti - the kick - for even more fun

ps. I predict Jackson over Liddel, much as i like Chuck.

Technique of the Week

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Well it’s the May Day holidays here in Beijing and I’m heading to a wild part of the Great Wall tomorrow on my favorite form of transport - a CJ750. Our friend from www.wohsai.com - Yiping - has just held his 7th grassroots MMA event here in Beijing. It’s getting better each time, as is the ground game of some of the Chinese fighters.

In the MMA spirit, here is a technique that translates to No-gi quite nicely.

When practicing this technique please use your wits. Training Shuaijiao, and any sport, is only fun if you are actually training and not sitting on the sidelines with an unecessary injury.

Go for Gold!

Michael
